About NASTH

History and Mission

The North American Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis (NASTH) was founded in May of 2012 by a group of scientists and clinicians doing research in this field. The goal was to fill a perceived void by creating a regional professional society dedicated to advancement of hemostasis and thrombosis research, education and clinical care. Seed funding was made available from the International Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis 2009 Congress' President's Fund. The Society was incorporated and IRS 501(c)3 designation was received by the end of 2012.

The initial objective is to establish a bi-annual forum in North America for discussion of research in hemostasis and thrombosis. While the original intent was to plan a regional congress for NASTH constituents, the NASTH board decided that the best way to achieve this end would be to join a collaboration of societies organizing the Thrombosis and Hemostasis Summit of North America (THSNA), to be held in April 2014 in Chicago, www.thsna.org

As it develops, it is anticipated that NASTH will seek to educate government agencies in areas important to its clinical and scientific mission. NASTH plans to offer educational opportunities, including workshops, small meetings, and webinars and provide a mentoring program for junior members to sustain a vibrant community in the field of hemostasis and thrombosis in North America.
